Last Thursday, I took a small road trip from Mendocino through the Anderson wine country and ended on Hwy 101 driving south just a few miles. I stopped and washed my car in one of those quarter-consuming, do-it-yourself washes, hand-dried it with old towels and then headed into the town of Healdsburg. This is one [...]

A Single Beast

I have been home a day and a half and done the grocery shopping and put some things away. I am beginning to feel a little more rested and also able to re-visit the class that I started that Jude offered over at spiritcloth. What an amazing class. I have spent a little time going [...]

I returned from Southern California to Portland at midnight Sunday. It is still raining here, but this morning on my walk I found a door that hit me with a jolt of color, so I went back to take a photo so I could share the joy of it. Now that I am home, I [...]
Lampshades

This is what I have been working on the last week, lampshades for a woman that asked me to make a total of five for her before my daughter’s wedding. She was in no hurry, but after I recovered sufficiently from all the wedding sewing, I felt compelled to get these finished as soon as [...]

On my early morning walks, I have become accustom to listening to audio books. I was finding that I was not working through and reading the list of books I perpetually use as a guide, so I decided to borrow some audio books from the library. This morning, I finished listening to Azar Nafisi’s book [...]
Dot philosophy

Tears are elongated dots. I had the urge to get out my dot quilt this morning…it was calling to me to add some more dots, but this time they were elongated dots, tear dots. I had this impulse to reach out and touch them, to bring them closer to me, gather them in.
Stamped velvet

A velvet that seems to lend itself to the feelings of fall and change of season. I am finding a few crimson colored leaves on my morning walks. It is time to reflect on how we will spend our time indoors and what it will mean to us when the tulips begin to bloom again. [...]

Just before I left Mendocino on Friday to return to Portland, I found this quilt up in the loft where my cat sleeps. Lately, I am drawn to some older pieces that I finished many years back (this one in 1983 or 1984). One tends to look hard into the colors, the design, for a [...]
Dots Congregating

I studied the words around the dots and decided one definitely had to go, “Reflection in a dot”. Maybe it was the light lavender color of the thread, but it seemed not to fit. It was an eyesore. So in its place I had to go larger with the circle and then proceeded to applique [...]
Dots and wine

Honestly this combination is not as far-fetched as you might assume. This morning as I was headed out to do some work on my dot project, I was absorbing dots around me. I looked down at the entrance to the bathroom and suddenly saw dots. As you might have guessed, this house has some rustic [...]
