That is a great book. I love that book and often look at it for inspiration. I am addicted to this group of writers and artists...how they lived and expressed themselves in such an avant garde manner for the times when everyone else was living a strictly starched, inhibited Victorian life, they were all blazing new and exciting trails.

Bloomsbury! Of course. Thank you for helping me connect the dots. Ever since I left my comment this morning, I've had this picture in my mind of a bohemian room with curtains, comfy armchairs, rugs, shawls, flowers, rich warm colors, and now I know what I was thinking about: paintings I have seen by Vanessa Bell! I have a book I found by chance in a secondhand story, Bloomsbury at Home, by Pamela Todd. It was in this book that I first learned about Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, and more about Virginia Woolf. I just pulled it down to look at Vanessa's paintings. Bohemian Bloomsbury. Yes! xo Kari

This scarf would be so easy to make with big fat knitting needles. It is tempting, isn't it? I love all the ruffles too, always have and with certain fabrics like linen and organdy and organza, they seem very sculptural.

I always associate the word "bohemian" with the Bloomsbury Group of the early 1900's. So much that I love comes our of this era...art, craft, and literature. Your meaning seems perfect for all these descriptions that you gave, and certainly much from this earlier time as well.

Sewing does trigger imaginary thoughts. I also find brisk walking for an hour or more each day brings me the same rewards, and I always return with so much inspiration.

Just lovely, I can't wait to see what you create with all that beauty. I noticed the big bulky scarf along with the ruffles. Makes me want to make something ruffley.

Yes, I agree with Deb: sea foam. Airy-fairy foam. And I love the word "bohemian" for it almost means "fabric" to me: curtains of fabric, kerchiefs, layers of clothing, fantastical shawls or aprons with voluminous pockets, sashes, rugs and weavings.

When I am washing dishes, I go deeply into my imagination. Hence, I have always loved to wash dishes! I get some of my best ideas with my hands in suds! Sewing must be a similar trigger for the imagination. For pure fantasy! xo Kari
