In the last few weeks, I have dreaded going down to my room to do anything. My worktable was cluttered. Books were stacked everywhere. Projects were beginning to creep out of corners, drawers, and cupboards. What was I to do? I simply could not work under these circumstances. So after my house guest left, I decided to get to the job of cleaning and sorting and re-organizing. Now I am drawn down here, and I am beginning to think creatively again.

Amidst all the confusion, I finally started to put my books in order, and now I can find them for easy reference. How simple an idea but how huge a task.

My husband has an excellent sense of space and offered me a few suggestions. I divided the large area into smaller vignettes of space. Now it feels cozy and more peaceful. I sense there might be a little bit of magic in the air.

Now it is time to concentrate on other creative ventures. It has been awhile since I have felt this free to create. Digging out of the rubble was worth the effort.
It looks beautiful! I think that having the right space can make a huge difference for some of us, it does for me. Maybe I’ll tackle my upstairs this weekend. It’s super scary.
Love the screen. And I know what you mean. But sometimes (most times) I will get started and then get so distracted bys something that I had been looking for and now I have finally found it.
And my studio is in a good need of organization. I have fabric everywhere. I will try to take a wiff of inspiration from you and get on with it.
to me, it looked neat before you started. but that’ my style…..ha!
I love to see other peoples creative areas, they are always sooooo different!
I don’t mind my own mess too much, but if my daughter does some sewing, anything she leaves behind makes me bearish. I like to keep my mess under some control because it’s in my bedroom and I have to look at it.
BTW…glad to see you again!
Phyllis, your studio space is BEAUTIFUL, both in its dishevelment and in its emerging order and renewed sense of purpose. Thank you for sharing a vulnerable and personal part of yourself with your blogging community. Its sort of like now we know what you look like when you first get up in the morning, to go along with that other absolutely gorgeous and put-together part of yourself–that birthday portrait photo you shared with us several months ago. Have a playful and creative day, whatever you put your hand to. Love, Julia
Now this is a post that goes beyond inspirational. Thanks for sharing the before and after and happy creativity!
Beautiful space. I find that I begin working best when everything is organized…in the end the place may be cluttered but, to start I must be able to see everything.
Have fun creating! : )
