“I discovered that by running against the wind with a bunch of pine branches in your hand you could have the pine trees singing in your ears…”
Georgia O’Keeffe
The Whitney in NYC will have a special exhibit of her work through January 17, 2010. There was an article in the New York Times today. What I wouldn’t give to be there.

Wonderful memories surfaced through this. The developer of the neighborhood where I grew up lined all the streets with long needles white pines. The sound of the wind whispering in those trees in like my own heartbeat. The way their needles drifted and carpeted the lawns and streets like a batting for the snows and the wonderful scent, soul deep memories. thanks.
Your response and memories were so vivid and poetic. What an incredible childhood memory. It surely must influence your art in more ways than you know. I actually smelled the pines as I was reading.
Boy, me too!! Her work is so wonderful and also inspiring. Not often can I say that, sometimes I look at great work and just feel I can’t climb that mountain but she has the opposite effect and I feel that in my own light, I can do O.K.
She must have had a generous spirit to be so giving.
I completely agree with you on O’Keeffe. She always had and has the ability to transport me to a deeper place. And it is her courage I love too that is very representative of who she was, and I think is quite vivid in her art.
oh, i am going to take my mom……tks!
You and your mom are so lucky!!! Send me a postcard of the show. Please?
Love the idea of pine trees singing…
Yes, it is such a lovely and gentle image.
