Crater Lake through our window early one morning.

Yesterday morning we decided to take a hike up to the highest point in the park. It was well worth the time. The views were 360, all angles.

This photo was taken at the top of Mt. Scott. The island in the middle of Crater Lake is Wizard Island.
Later in the evening, as we were sitting in rocking chairs at the back of the lodge overlooking the lake, we witnessed the most spectacular thunder and lightning storm. My husband took the next two photos. Next to us sat a couple from The Netherlands and they were feverishly trying to get that split second of lightning too.

I did a lot of reading and some stitching too. I read a wonderful book Fifty Days of Solitude by Doris Grumbach and managed to redo a dot on one of my quilts that I am working on. I did “reflection in a dot” in a raspberry shade of embroidery, and I like it much better.

When we arrived home we discovered that some of our tomatoes are ripening! What a nice surprise that was.

I realize many times I post photos of places that I love. I am very much an outdoor person and love to walk, hike, and be in the elements. However, I am hoping as time moves on, this blog will begin to focus more on my creative spirit and the ways in which I would like this to come forth, to be braver and more confident in my expressions, and let go of the fear of revealing too much of myself. I really want to circle back to myself, not selfishly, but through a deep exploration as I move ahead into 2010. Perhaps this might best be expressed as a spiritual journey, one centered on a deeper kind of knowing. I am a dot, but what kind of a dot am I?
I think that perhaps you have hit on a crucial point. We are all a dot in the universe and if we could see that part of the universe and point and say to ourselves “there I am” or better yet “there i am”, then we would have more perspective of the enormity of what we are attempting. Maybe the ego is a protection device to keep us from seeing and being overwhelmed with the job in front of us. And one step at a time is all we can see (part of-never the whole step).
This is too early in the morning for late night thoughts. It sounds like you trip was re-storative!
Never too early for your thoughts! My husband used to travel more than he does now for his job, and when he was in the air in a plane he imagined all humans as simply dots, dots in the universe competing for space and attention. So when I am in a plane and look down and try to imaging myself as a dot, it seems like a worthy time to re-evaluate life.
Beautiful photos. Reflect is good, both the dot and the idea.
I’m thinking about what you’ve said, thinking about fear and being creative, and about blogging…
I would like to hear more of your thoughts on this…the fear, the creative, the blogging.
Haven’t forgotten.
I think I’ll need to express this in a couple different ways.
I have really enjoyed leafing through your blog. I like the idea of the travelling dot very much.
Phyllis I love the photos they are extraordinary and peaceful. I love the idea of going on a spiritual journey. I think I am going to reread some of my favorite books to help me go on a more spiritual creative journey also. Thank you for the lovely photos and I like your creative piece very much! Blessings on your journey.
wow that lightening is fabulous… and the dot a perfect reflection.
I will show my husband your lake photos, because it’s a place I would like to visit, and my H loves storms that are electrical. Win win if you ask me!
Showing your work on your blog isn’t showing off, it’s sharing. Sometimes asking for input, but always, ‘here’s where my head and hands have been.’ I like to see how we all evolve with our work. I know my own work has gone in leaps from one stage to the next, whereas others have taken baby steps.
I enjoy looking at all your photos, hand work or otherwise!
a lovely post and thank you so much for the sharing and the photos. i am green with envy over that trip. glorious just glorious. one can really put one’s life in perspective in such a setting.
perhaps that is how your creative journey and risk taking came about …..
oh how is understand your feelings …. of confidence …… fear …… and the risk of exposure
Touching that chord, particularly of those feelings, helps to know with creative people it might be universal.
