It was such a treat to return and find all these thoughtful and sharing and heartfelt comments on my last post. I was sorry to be out of touch for this many days, but it was a special reward to return to these greetings. I thank all of you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
I am back home watering the garden, sorting the mail, petting and pampering the cats, taking an inventory of the food in cupboards and the refrigerator, unpacking bags and suitcases, and finally pouring a glass of wine and relaxing outside. It is always a little hard to come back to the confines of a neighborhood after being amidst majestic mountains and clear blue immense lakes.
I consider myself lucky to have a husband who likes celebrations and knows how to improvise when there is no bakery around. One banana, two fig newtons, happy animals and a huge number sixty was the recipe he used. I think this was the best birthday cake I have ever had, and I made one perfect wish.

We stayed at Lake Mcdonald Lodge on the eastern side of the lake in the southern part of Glacier National Park. The days were long. The sun rose early and settled late in the evening, and this is where we spent most of our time enjoying the peace and quiet beauty. The lodge had just opened and there were hardly any people around. The weather was mild and sunny, and the fire still roaring in the gigantic fireplace. I am sure in two weeks the place will be teeming with tourists.

I spent some time reading……

And sewing and thinking and wondering and planning. It was all good. One of my daughters gave me a card with a quote from Louisa May Alcott that I had not ever read. It seemed to signify the best part of getting older for me.
Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations.
I may not reach them,
but I can look up and see their beauty,
believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.
~Louisa May Alcott
Happy Birthday! I see we were born in the same year. I’ve been avoiding dwelling on the significance of numbers but that quote was very welcome. And a week away anywhere would be a terrific birthday gift…time to plan.
I think this must have been a good year. I seem to be drawn to the number four, and if you look it up you will find some interesting symbolism, full of hope and good things. Hope your birthday is meaningful too!
…sounds like you are refreshed. the piece you are working on looks like a stage set for something wonderful .
Yes, I am refreshed and still out of touch with my computer for some reason. Must cure myself of that as I can’t live in the mountains in my mind and deal with reality.
I think that tribute is wonderful. On first glance, I thought I saw a chalice of maybe the Holy Grail. Wonderful when the eyes play tricks but good tricks.
I thought that the photo was your aunt. You look like you have found some part of you worth following. I think the Louisa May Alcott quote says it all.
Good year!
I do not look like my aunt at all, and she had the best dimples of anyone I have ever known. Louisa May Alcott really touched a chord, didn’t she?
Wonderful! And you are so beautiful!
Welcome back! Looks like you found a beautiful place to relax and regroup. That is an inspired and healthy looking birthday treat.
Yes, the birthday cake was organic, vegan, and healthy. Also delicious!
Beautiful Mom!!
You must know you were a very large part of this event even though you were not there in person. You were definitely there is spirit all day!
Wow! those mountains, and what a wonderful hubby, so thoughtful! You look so well and gorgeous for 60. Are you sure you havn’t got the maths wrong, and are only about 45?!
Re. your comment on my blog about lace ID, a great American book that is my ‘Bible’ where lace is concerned is: Antique Lace: Identifying Tpes & Techniques by Heather Toomer, published by Schiffer. As far as I know, it is available on Amazon, and well worth investing in, the photos and information are fantastic!
Actually I am only 29 as they say, but aging is good. It comes with other gifts unseen. Thank you so much for the book reference. I know I do not have that one, and if you recommend it, I am sure it is the best. I loved that piece of lace you showed on your blog. It was such a gem. I love to visit there and am always excited and fascinated by what you discover and share.
Welcome back, and a belated happy birthday!
I have been away fro about three weeks, and I am still unpacking, and the final event was a party for a sixty year old friend, and I had a great time rubbing it in that he was now a senior and I’m not ….. quite!
Must have been a superb year!

Sixty is a good number. I like even numbers for some reason, and this has been true since I started grammar school. I hope you were on a fun journey for three weeks, and not all work or duty. Thank you for the birthday greeting.
