I am still piecing the cottons and silks, but the velvets are done for at least one row and have been added to the bottom of the Phoenix piece. I do not want to show it until I finish adding the other elements. In search of another section to add, I was inspired by this lovely card. I came across it at an antique show. A dealer was getting rid of a lot of her vintage papers and cards, and I purchased this one with my project in mind. I had ordered some fabric printing paper from Dharma Trading , and in one of the packets was a silk chiffon. I copied a large butterfly image on this transparent silk and then laid this over a silk piece of Japanese fabric. As yet, I have not figured a way to combine the two, but I will set it aside and see how it can be resolved later. In the meantime, back to my piecework.

Late this afternoon I went into the garden and planted three more roses along the front fence. These roses in the photo are some I picked yesterday and are my favorite. The name of this rose is Abraham Darby and it is an English rose produced by David Austin. I think his roses are some of the best. This one has such a beautiful form and color and the fragrance is so intoxicating that you just want to lay down in its heady fragrance and take your last breath. Yes, I guess I am a rose aficionado, but no expert by any stretch. I buy what I love and nurture and hover over it as I do my cats.
I love roses too. They are one of my weaknesses (do I really need 22 different ones on a small lot?), but what a lovely weakness to have!
Your fabric combo is beautiful. Have you considered fusing them?
I have found that once you plant one rose, you might as well resign yourself to fifty because, the more you learn and read about, the more you have to have. I agree it is a soothing and lovely weakness.
I have not considered fusing the two fabrics, but that seems like it might be a good option.
You definitley are a June girl. You like Pearls and Roses. You fill the definition. I have some Austin Tea Roses also.
I guess I did mention somewhere that I love pearls. I have noticed that some women wear pearls everyday of their lives, whether with jeans or dresses. As collecting roses, they seems like a nice habit.
I love your roses(I don’t know if I mentioned it before but flowers put their leaves in front of their eyes when I walk past them in fear I will kill them with my black thumb, unless of course they are expensive annuals, then they live). I love the card can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Your black thumb sounds a bit ominous. I think some of us start out as gardeners and others not. I had a whole line of people, many generations down that were plant lovers, so I think this must leave an indelible impression.
