I want to revert to childhood again and do doodles like the ones above. I think it was Picasso who returned to child-like drawings in order to bring fresh, unencumbered insight to his paintings. This was in the garden at Sunnyside Elementary School in Portland. I walk by there at least twice a week on my morning walks and am fascinated by their gardens and delightful quotes and signs. Just looking at them makes me happy.
So here I am. It is almost midnight, and I was going to do a post on a silk quilt and a book on the subject, but plans had to be changed. We had a guest for dinner, and the time I give to this at a certain hour disappeared. I will get to this subject in the afternoon tomorrow. It has been one of those day….errands, cooking, cleaning, etc.
What I find refreshing about the doodles of childhood is the limited palette. We only had what the box of Crayolas gave us. and yet look at the colors in that sign, they are wonderful together, so alive and electric.
Yes, maybe Picasso had the right idea.
Pat,
Well I think sometimes a box of crayons is the only art supply we need. Sometimes we have so many choices that we struggle with inertia from this complexity.
I love it! Wonderful in it’s simplicity and creativity!
