I made this vest from a small piece of French fabric that I had been saving. I was drawn to it by the birds as well as the colors. There are so many wonderful textiles from this era, late 19th/early 20th c. Here is a place that features many of these beauties.

The back features the birds more prominently. I could not match the pattern along the back seam because the meager amount of fabric from which I had to cut.

The buttons on the front side closure I had been saving for a special project. They seem like added bits of jewelry. I sewed them tightly so as not to lose them.

What a beautiful vest and I love the buttons! Hope you had a wonderfully creative drive home!
The birds on that piece of fabric are fantastic! What a great project.
That is so lovely. Do you wear it often and preen? It is definetely that kind of garment. Thanks for the hot link to more fabric.
When I finally give something away, I always remove the buttons and put on “everyday” buttons. I, too, get attached to my special buttons.
I do not wear this very often primarily because I need a good pair of cropped linen pants to go with this. I always take off the nice buttons too. I am glad to know someone else does this as well.
boy, what a fit. you are good at this. i like how the buttons blend right into the feeling of the print.
The fit is good as long as one keeps up daily walks. The buttons are really the treasures that match the print.
I love the story of the making as much as the fabric and the garment. It is astonishing that a saved piece of fabric suddenly presents itself as a project, even after a time spent in our ownership with no idea of purpose. Serendipity, I think it is.
Would it be proper to say that I hear voices from the fabric? But in all sincerity, I actually do. My heart is there always waiting to be awakened!
MMmmmmmm. Love the bird motif, and the buttons remind me of eucalyptus berries. The birds with their heads up high seem so happy!
Eucalyptus berries…I like the imagery. It takes me back to your enchanted blog and the miniature world of magical fairies.
