I had another idea today, an Asian textile I wanted to show and write about, but my thoughts turned all day to houses….dancing houses, happy houses, houses that are on feet that dance to music, rejoice, sing, go wild with rhythm, laughter, and joy. On my morning walk I walked by one of my favorite houses that has a white face with a canary yellow front door. Today I said out loud, “Those people must be happy….happy outside, happy inside.” My step was a little lighter. My habit is to look at a few blogs before I go on my walk. This one here generated a certain uplifting mood, and all day I have been thinking about “happy houses”. All these were taken in San Francisco on a trip to visit my brother. I love the colors of this one. WHO lives there? I want to know them. They must be fun, adventurous, free spirits, risk takers, or maybe wall flowers aching to express themselves!

Now these people are more into the classical feel, but they still sense a spirit that they are trying to capture. All their magazines and books are tidy in their stacks, and the decor is most likely well appointed furnishings with tasteful colors and period furniture. They are more inhibited than the people with the exuberant color, but they are on the brink of disclosure.

A little more risky here. They are trying to become more flamboyant. However, they need more time to study the range of colors, possibilities, reasons to be free.

I guess what I love most about this one is the Santa sleigh and reindeer as well as the Christmas tree since it is well past the holidays. Now this is pure joy. I particularly love the SUV parked down into the inverted driveway. The elements really are food for much thought and continued study.
I realize this does not address fabric or anything related, but take these ideas and run with them because I think they would make great beginnings for happiness in design whether it is a quilt or a stitched piece.
Since I am going up this weekend, I will be on the look out for these amazingly painted homes. When I was growing up, these homes were all the same color. Really dull, but then the adults hadn’t caught up with what was going on in SF.
Thanks for whetting my apetite.
There is a never-ending supply of house eye candy. Hope you have a nice time.
Actually it’s a study of color. Totally applies!
I love, love, love colorful houses.
Me too! I sometimes dream about being a house paint consultant, but all the houses would look pretty wild.
happiness in design, now that is a great line.
